About Us

The Shop:

Housed in a beautiful, historic brick building on the corner of Woodland Avenue and East High Street in Lexington, Kentucky, Decorator Warehouse is a unique retail experience.  It all begins with a friendly greeting at the door.  Our house pups will likely meet you with wagging tails to say hello.  That is, unless they are passed out on their custom dog bed, a bit spoiled, to say the least.  Once inside, you will discover home furnishings, accessories and decor that will provide the "wow" factor in your decorating scheme.  In a phrase, Decorator Warehouse is Everything But Ordinary.

The Story Behind the Shop:

It all started with the Lexington Police Department.  Sounds a bit off, but that is where the path began.  And, no, I was not arrested.  I was a Lexington Police Officer at the ripe old age of 21 and loving life, but the universe had different plans for me.  A back injury suddenly ended what I thought was going to be my life-long career.  Nothing exciting, I was just dodging a couple of bullets... just kidding.  I won't bore you with the real story.  No longer a police officer, I struggled to find a new niche.

I taught 4th and 5th graders Mathematics and well, let's just say it wasn't for me.  Loved the kiddos, but, Lord, the paperwork and administration was too much to enjoy. God Bless our teachers and school employees!

In June of 2012, I was chatting with my Aunt Brenda who has always been a life-long entrepreneur.  She encouraged me to follow my dream of opening my own shop.  Actually, she said, "What the hell are you waiting for? Just do it."

Within two months, I had asked my husband if he really meant "for better or for worse," quit my job, dragged my Aunt to market, and Decorator Warehouse was born. Thanks to a small kick of encouragement and a completely devoted family,  we opened our doors August 18th, 2012.  Every day, I am learning, improving, and hustling, but I have found my new niche, Shopkeeper at Decorator Warehouse. I love what I do again and that is some kind of wonderful!
